Yogyakarta International Airport Rail Link is the airport rail service connecting Yogyakarta to Yogyakarta International Airport.
Yogyakarta International Airport (IYIA) opened in 2019, replacing Adisutjipto Airport as the main airport of Yogyakarta. The new airport is about 45 km from Yogyakarta, but it’s near the main railway that runs near the southern coastline of Central Java. A spur line connected the airport to the railway in 2021.

Yogyakarta International Airport Rail Link tickets
Tickets can be bought online or via the KA Bandara app.
There is a separate ticket office at Yogyakarta station, which leads to the entrance of the rail link.
I went to buy a ticket at the airport and they said it was already sold out for the next available train. I would have considered buying online if I knew there was a chance of tickets selling out
Onboard Yogyakarta International Airport Rail Link
Yogyakarta International Airport Rail Link is a dedicated train used exclusively for the airport run (not a through-service to another destination).
There are luggage racks onboard for large bags.
The seats are comfortable padded seats that look like seats in a commuter train.
There is a toilet on the train.
The train travels through the Special Region of Yogyakarta along the same railway that connects Bandung to Yogyakarta.
The total travel time is 35 minutes on the express service.
The airport station is connected to the airport in a purpose-built station.
Coming from the airport, Yogyakarta Station is centrally-located and there are many hotels for all budgets near the station. The station is near Malioboro Road (the main thoroughfare of Yogyakarta that feature a wide pedestrian access).
I was originally sceptical of the new airport due to how far it is from Yogyakarta. It turns out that Indonesia are great at building airport railways. By using the exisiting line of the Java railways they have been able to make a useful railway that connect a modern airport to the historic centre of Yogyakarta.

Adisutjipto Airport
Adisutjipto Airport is the old airport of Yogyakarta. Most flights are now from the new airport, and the airport lost its international status in 2024.
Adisutjipto still serves limited military, private, and commercial flights. The only scheduled flight is by Citilink to Jakarta–Halim Perdanakusuma.
Adisucipto Airport is served by KRL Commuterline Yogyakarta–Solo commuter rail at Maguwo Station.
