Added Charges on Cruises – Peter Greenberg Travel Detective

Looking for a cruise ship bargain? Remember, in most cases, an inexpensive cabin fare is never going to be what you pay by the end of the cruise.

On most cruise ships, many dining rooms charge a premium.

A majority of the on board attractions have fees, and with few exceptions, shore excursions have a separate charge.

The real extra costs can almost always carry sticker shock at the end of the cruise, especially soft drinks and alcohol.

Some cruise lines sell “all you can drink” packages. On one cruise ship, an unlimited drinks package for two prices out at $1,395.

That’s more than the cost of some weeklong cruises!

And if you drink enough to justify the cost of that package, you might easily forget you were on the cruise in the first place. So budget accordingly and with common sense.
